Life is difficult. Yet when we accept this reality, our lives change dramatically for the better. Our fear, sadness, and anger is often what is keeping us from facing the vital facts of our lives which need to be addressed. The more effective we are at soothing ourself, the more courageous we become. For it is often overwhelming pain that paralyzes us or leads us to mindlessly react in ways that sabotage our peace and happiness. I teach you how to calm yourself and effectively solve the problems you face. I collaborate with you as you learn how to influence your subconscious mind which is as much as 95 percent of thinking. We work together so you can realize your dreams in your relationships and career.
My practice was an oddity before COVID. Now it just makes sense. I meet most of my clients outdoors, on the hiking trails of the Berkeley and Oakland Redwoods. I of course also work with people online, too, but prefer to at least meet once or twice a month in-person: webcams are quite convenient, but still a 2D version of ourselves; it's definitely not ideal for the sort of conversational depth & breadth that we may embark on together. Put more plainly: Talking about the most stressful, anxiety producing, depressing, &/or shame-inducing stuff is best done in person, not online. Take a look at my website to get more of a feel for whether my practice may be a fit for you, and of course, don't hesitate to send an email or txt msg if you have questions: 415.823.1760

Deciding to engage in therapy is an important step in one’s life and I am honored by the opportunity to join in this journey with you. My work with clients begins from a place of genuine curiosity and authenticity. As a relational-cultural narrative therapist I believe that the person is not the problem. The problem is the problem and we work together to develop and implement effective tools aimed to address the problem. People are also defined by stories. When these stories become problematic, people can become stuck. Together we will examine these stories and help you develop new and healthy stories for your life. While relational-cultural narrative therapy guides my work, I also incorporate other evidenced-based practices and cognitive behavioral therapy to address maladaptive patterns and behaviors. I am deeply committed to working with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) and LGBTQIA+ populations. I look forward to the opportunity of hearing your story and working with you.

I am also trained in Biblical Counseling to provide Christian based therapy. This is an area of special interest in my practice and the framework from which I draw personal and professional perspective. Are You Ready to Create Positive Lasting Change? “Change is not merely necessary to life – it is life.” – Alvin Toffler Few things in life, if any, are as constant as change! Whether or not we are ready for it, change comes to us in many forms and in many ways – in our personal and professional relationships, in where we live, in our career paths, in our life goals and ambitions, and in how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. However, despite the continuity of change, coping with it can be a difficult and troubling experience. Change often causes us to step outside of what’s familiar and comfortable – bringing up new questions, unsettling emotions, and uncertainty about life and our place in it. In order to survive, we must learn to accept and navigate change. But survival is just the beginning… To achieve true success, we must go beyond becoming comfortable with change. We must learn to create the changes we want and need! It can take a lot of work. But despite the difficulties, you’ll find few things in life more profoundly rewarding than being able to create positive lasting change. Whether you’re trying to cope with current life changes or actively working to create the life you desire, there may be nothing so important as having an objective and highly-skilled partner to help you along the path to a better life. Helping people take control of their lives and create positive, lasting change is exactly what I do. And I love doing it! I’ve learned to create the life I’ve always wanted, and I know no greater joy than helping others do the same. If I can do it, so can you. Please keep reading for more information or contact me today, 510-486-1188 or karenrosemft@rose-counseling.com. I look forward to hearing from you. How My Work Can Work For You The first step necessary for coping with – and creating – change is to identify where you are now as well as the life you’d like to create. And, through a combination of thoughtful questioning and out-of-the-box thinking, I’ve helped countless clients do just that. Once we’ve established a clear set of goals for our work together, you will be ready to learn the strategies, tools, and skills necessary to create a life of meaning and self-fulfillment. Then, using a variety of techniques such as solution-focused, short-term counseling, in-depth psychotherapy, psychospirituality, dreamwork, and other methodologies, I can help you overcome anxiety and depression, conquer recurring obstacles, discover meaning, and create a life you’re proud to call a true success! Solution-Focused Counseling – This relatively brief method of counseling can help relieve current symptoms you may be experiencing (such as anxiety or depression), facilitate better communication with others, reduce stress, and help you feel better. Long-Term Psychotherapy – My use of longer-term psychotherapy includes Jungian depth work, dream work, and psychospirituality. This type of therapy can help you explore who you are, discover meaning and purpose in life, and achieve a greater level of self-understanding. Career Counseling – The career counseling services I provide can help identify areas in your life (career, relationships, spirituality, etc.) where you feel called to be more aligned with your purpose. With that knowledge in hand, I can help you acknowledge and overcome any barriers preventing you from achieving your dreams.
My approach to the therapy process is collaborative so that together we can work to accomplish your goals. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, low mood, past trauma, relationship issues, or a life transition, we can work together to uncover the underlying emotions and navigate the blind spots so that you can gain clarity and calmness in your self and in your relationships. I use specific styles of therapy, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) as a way to help guide the therapeutic process. These styles help us explore strengths and transformation, while also navigating areas that keep us emotionally stuck. I am truly inspired by the resilience of the human spirit and the bravery that people have when embarking on the difficult but necessary work of self-examination. I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you can feel supported and understood, as we journey together in the therapy process.

In times of change and stress, it's totally normal to feel a bit anxious and overwhelmed. We might find ourselves feeling a bit lost or just going through the motions without much joy or meaning. You might find yourself not being the person that you want to be, feeling completely lost in a new environment, or struggling to adjust to some current transitions in your life. You hold within yourself the resources to move forward into a more fulfilled, joyful, and peaceful life where you feel in control and like you have the tools you need to manage challenges that come up. Sharing your journey with others, allowing them to witness both your joys and struggles as you navigate transitions, can be transformative. Together, we can explore and uncover the resilience and strength within you to foster a more meaningful and joyful life.
