Therapists for college students near University of Colorado Boulder
Hi, I’m Joanna Lester—founder of First Circle Therapy, a Colorado-based virtual practice. I specialize in working with college and grad students who are thoughtful, creative, and sensitive—but overwhelmed by the pressure to keep it all together. If you're juggling deadlines, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about who you're becoming, you might feel anxious, unmotivated, burned out, or just not yourself. You’re not alone—and therapy can be a space to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with what really matters to you. Our work can help you move through cycles of self-doubt, people-pleasing, or perfectionism and into a more grounded, self-led life. Whether you're processing trauma, navigating identity shifts, or learning to set healthier boundaries, I offer space to explore your inner world with clarity and care. In our sessions, we’ll use nervous system tools (to help your body shift out of fight-or-flight and feel more at ease) and parts work (to help the different sides of you—like the achiever, avoider, or inner critic—work together instead of against each other). You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. I offer free consultations to see if we’re a fit, and I accept several major insurance plans to make therapy more accessible. Feel free to reach out—no pressure.
If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re ready to make some changes in your life. Maybe you’re struggling to form deep and meaningful relationships. Maybe you’re tired of constantly making to-do lists but never finishing them. Or maybe you’re tired of being plagued by indecision and self-doubt. As a licensed professional counselor, I’ll help you let go of perfectionism, people pleasing and other related anxieties. I’m a perfectionist therapist who loves working with high achievers, anxious college students and overwhelmed adults. I'm a licensed professional counselor in Missouri, Illinois and Colorado. I also offer Brainspotting.
The Trauma-Informed Campus Collective is a clinical practice serving college students exclusively. Our work focuses on trauma-informed care with students navigating complex family systems, identity development, emotional regulation, and belonging within the college environment.
If you've been the victim of a sexual assault, violence, or if you've had relationship struggles or trauma, or family trauma, I would love to help you heal from these experiences so you can step into the healthiest, fullest, version of yourself. In my work I have helped clients find self empowerment and heal from wounds, old and new, to develop a greater sense of who they truly are. You won't forget what happened to you, but you don't have to be held down by it either. In our work, we will address these concerns from a compassionate, trauma informed approach so that you can feel freedom from the what holds you back from living as your most confident, authentic, self! I'm LGBTQIA affirming and practice and work from a Health at Every Size/body-positive perspective. You are welcome to be 100% your real self with me - unapologetically. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to make we feel like a good fit. Feel free to call or email me to schedule.

You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, mood swings, or symptoms that are hard to explain, leaving you stuck, hopeless, or alone. Maybe daily life feels heavier than it should, and you are tired of just getting by. You want clarity about what you are experiencing and a way forward that actually works. You are looking for a space where you can be heard without judgment, feel understood, and begin to regain a sense of control. More than anything, you want relief, stability, and a life that feels meaningful, balanced, and connected to who you truly are. I provide compassionate, individualized, evidence-based care through mental health evaluations, medication management, and therapy. I work with anxiety, depression, mood, and psychotic disorders, focusing on trust, open communication, and creating a safe, supportive space while building a plan tailored to your goals. Reaching out can feel hard, especially when you feel alone or overwhelmed. My strength is meeting you with empathy, honesty, and respect so you feel truly seen and safe. We will move at your pace and work together toward meaningful change. You do not have to carry this alone. When you are ready, I am here to support you.
When you’re in need of compassionate mental health care, you deserve genuine openness from a therapist who strives to be your advocate at all times. I look forward to being that advocate for you, learning more about who you are as an individual while exploring the ways we can achieve your collaborative goals together. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner with more than a decade of experience, I help adults navigate challenges posed by depressive and anxiety disorders as well as assist with processing and treating trauma and grief that individuals have experienced throughout their lives. My goal is to make in-depth inquiries and connections that get to the root of your struggles and build the skills needed to overcome any obstacle. I'm passionate about helping redefine the past and instilling hope for greater mental wellness. That’s why my method is centered around openness and grounded in the idea that you are not broken and needing to be "fixed." Instead, we use your life experiences to heal and explore the person you would like to be. In our time together, you can expect a kind, casual, and inquisitive environment when exploring your symptoms and history. I operate with a person-centered, Rogerian approach, using the concept of "unconditional positive regard" and a conversational style, so you feel understood in a non-judgmental way and at ease when discussing difficult history. I have served the Denver community as a psychiatric nurse practitioner based in mental health for the majority of my career. During this time, I had the honor of treating a wide number of diagnoses and severities of symptoms across ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic hardships. These experiences taught me just how nuanced mental health care truly is, allowing me to see a person not as "one diagnosis," but to take into account their entire history, relationship dynamics, and values to best tailor treatment, leading to greater well-being. When I’m not in my therapist role, I am a hobbyist woodworker and woodturner. I enjoy building and tinkering with models, as well as other creative outlets like cooking and baking sourdough bread.

Virtual Sessions Only! Hi! I'm Stacey. I work with students who are experiencing anxiety. I have worked in Mental Health for over 20 years. I love working with college students! I like to describe myself as your mental health accountability partner. We often know the things we need to be doing to keep on top of our health and wellness, but it's easy to get off track. That's where I come in. I teach you self awareness and how to add daily habits that will help you overcome your anxiety. I give weekly homework (don't worry, it's easy and fun) to help you learn how to manage your anxiety daily. I like to empower my clients by teaching them how their bodies work and how to hack their own nervous systems so they can live a calm and relaxed life. I use an Integrative approach and also offer Hypnotherapy. I offer free consultations. I hope to hear from you!
As an insight-oriented therapist I operate from the belief that the more we understand about where we have been, the more control we have in where we are going. I take a client-centered approach to therapy, encouraging my clients to bring in what feels most important to them each week. When working with clients, my first priority is establishing a secure, authentic relationship that meets the needs of each individual. We work together to identify patterns of how you relate to yourself and others. We explore where they came from and the purpose they serve in your life. This allows you to identify what you want to change, and together we work to create a life that aligns with who you are.
If you’re feeling stuck, down, or unsure of what comes next—wanting change but also fearing it—you’re not alone. I work well with people who want something to shift, even if they’re unsure it’s possible. With over a decade of experience in inpatient and outpatient settings (and everything in-between), I get excited about helping you access your resilience and take meaningful steps toward the life you want. With a background in clinical leadership and a deep commitment to human growth, I enjoy bringing both expertise and authenticity to my work as a therapist. I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families move beyond surface-level coping and into meaningful, lasting change. My approach integrates insight, practical tools, and a focus on real transformation. Finding a therapist can be daunting, I know.
