Hello! My name is Dr. Kim Wasserman. I am a private practicing Psychologist with over 30 years of experience in assisting individuals with developing greater self-understanding and life satisfaction via counseling. I work extensively with adults and college students who want to enhance their relationships, improve career/school performance and manage the stress in their lives more effectively. Through psychotherapy, many people come to understand the causes of their current life difficulties and are able to develop and implement 'tools' which allow them to achieve greater happiness and satisfaction in their lives. I am happy to speak with you about how counseling can help you enhance your potential and make a difference in the quality of your life.
I am a licensed psychologist who works with young adults who are seeking help with emotional, social, and behavioral problems. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is essential to creating change. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment to help you navigate the challenges you're facing. I use CBT and other evidence-based treatments, tailored to each individual, to help meet their needs and achieve their goals. I also conduct neuropsychological assessments for various concerns including ADHD, learning disabilities, memory problems etc. My background in school psychology has trained me to collaborate and consult with other professionals, including school counselors, teachers, doctors, and other specialists to work as a team to improve outcomes for my clients. I also have training in treating teens and college students with depression, anxiety, and self-harm. Beginning therapy can be an anxiety-inducing and scary process. My goal is to create a comfortable, safe, and supportive environment where we can work together to help you cope with whatever challenges and stressors you're facing. Please contact me by email or phone to see if we would be a good fit.
In working with you, my goal is to help you improve your overall sense of well-being, improve your relationships and address life's challenges with greater self-assurance and ease. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in the present. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will address what may be holding you back from experiencing life with greater joy and ease.
I have expertise in working with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, untangling impacts of trauma, and neurodivergent young adults, though many clients of diverse backgrounds and experiences tend to respond well to my authenticity and warmth. Clients seeking my support might be struggling with perfectionism, anxiety, burn out, boundary-setting, self-doubt, and identity. Common goals might include reducing anxiety, applying their awareness of self to healing, and approaching life and relationships with wellness and empowerment. My goal is to act as a partner in navigating the waves of life. I'm super excited to learn more about you! Building on sensory awareness, mindfulness, trauma work, and creativity, we'll dig for the root of your distress. Tools such as thought challenging, processing trauma, reducing nervous system burnout, and empowerment to lean into your long-term goals may be cornerstones of our work together. I cultivate an environment of authenticity, warmth, and creativity. Working with pre-teens to adults, I recognize that we have all experienced adversity to some degree in our lives and each degree is equally valid. While growth is often a layered and open-ended journey, your counseling relationship and an understanding of relational dynamics will be cornerstones for your adventure. Give us a call to discuss how we can help!

We all want to be happy. We may feel stuck or face challenges. Getting support from someone on the outside, in the counseling or psychology field, can help you gain a new perspective. You can learn to make better choices, feel less anxious and feel more optimistic; find peace in the day-to-day. In my practice, I see adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families, and here’s a little bit about how I work: I work in the here-and-now and have background training in Gestalt theory and utilize a variety of psychotherapy techniques. I take a creative and practical approach to counseling that allows you to understand more quickly what drives you and helps you identify new and better ways of living. Quieting the “noise” that distracts you will help so you can focus your energy on what’s meaningful and fulfilling. I earned my masters in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA in 2007 and went on to complete the necessary 3+ years of post-graduate training to qualify for a psychotherapy license in the state of PA. I am paneled with many of the major commercial insurance plans as well as several employee assistance programs. During my 17 years experience as a counselor and research clinician, I was trained to utilize several semi-structured interviewing tools such as KSADS, SCID, and ISCA-D. I have published social psychology testing materials at the University of Pittsburgh while working on several major nationally-funded depression and anxiety studies under Doctors Birmaher, Axelson, and Kovacs. In 2010, I spent a year as a volunteer with the Good Grief Center of Pittsburgh where I had extensive training in grief counseling. In addition to my clinical skills, I hold a substance abuse education/SAP certification from UPMC. College is an exciting time though it can be an overwhelming one as well. College comes with its own unique set of challenges - increased workload, the need for greater time management, increased independence, and trying to find a good work-life balance, to name a few. College life can bring on new anxiety or exacerbate pre-existing anxiety, and managing this and coping in healthy and effective ways can prove difficult at times. Anxiety and stress can also trigger new or worsen pre-existing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), like excoriation disorder (skin picking) and trichotillomania (hair pulling). If you are a female student struggling with anxiety and need help managing it, and/or are having a difficult time with BFRBs, I would love to work with you. Together we will work on identifying stressors/triggers as well as strategies and skills you can use to better manage your anxiety and/or your BFRB. I look forward to meeting you!
School can be some of the most rewarding years of your life but they can also be overwhelming. Between classes, internships, work, relationships, family expectations, finances, and figuring out who you are and where you're headed, sometimes it's good to have some extra support. Therapy gives you a place to talk openly about what's going on, without judgment. Whether you're feeling anxious, stressed, burned out, stuck, lonely, or simply trying to make sense of a major life transition, you don't have to navigate it alone. I work with college and graduate students on concerns such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, identity exploration, gender identity, academic stress, life transitions, binge eating, and body image. Many of my clients are also learning how to manage life on their own for the first time and are discovering that no one ever really taught them how to handle the emotional side of money. As a Certified Financial Social Worker, I can help you develop a healthier relationship with money, spending, debt, budgeting, and financial decision-making. Together, we can explore both the practical and emotional aspects of financial wellness so you feel more confident and in control. My style is warm, supportive, and down-to-earth. I'll meet you where you are, help you build on your strengths, and offer practical tools along the way. If you're curious about working together, I'd be happy to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.
