Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, burned out? Are you dealing with anxiety, depression, or difficulty in adjusting? I believe that every person can benefit from counseling and that finding the right match with your provider matters. My theoretical orientation follows the person-centered approach to counseling, which recognizes the potential of clients to determine their own best treatment. I believe in a collaborative effort between counselor and client and will work with you to achieve the most beneficial outcome for you, as an individual.. My approach is based on my belief that we all have the capacity to improve our own well-being and that counseling can often be a catalyst toward change. My hope and intention are to work with you to define your counseling goals and to help you discover the best way to achieve those goals.
Hi, I enjoy helping other find their path. I work well with anxiety, depression, stress, life transition, ADHD, social skills, trauma, and relationship issues. I use a Cognitive Behavioral therapy model, but adapt to the specific needs of the individual.
Many of my clients feel overwhelmed with life's stressors and are looking for support and healthy coping skills. I also work with clients who have experienced trauma. I have provided counseling for survivors of sexual abuse for many years. Creating a safe space where clients can come without judgment and building an authentic relationship is my priority. Healing looks different for each person. I encourage my clients to decide what they need and then work alongside them to support their goals.
My therapeutic approach is dependent on what your needs and goals are as I believe that you are the expert on your own life. I specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, autism, ADHD, stress, and depression for around ages 5 to 29. I often utilize and I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Solution Focused therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Supportive Family therapy, and Mindfulness-Based therapy. I also can incorporate art and sand tray techniques into sessions. I believe having a good therapeutic relationship with you is essential to starting the journey into therapy. It is also important that you feel comfortable and safe when you are with me to allow yourself to fully be you.
I believe that warmth, understanding and compassion are the key to any successful and supportive therapeutic relationship and these qualities are the foundation of my practice. I am passionate about helping women recover from alcoholism and helping them to find peace within their lives. Hello! Throughout my ten years in the mental health field, I have worked in settings that range from inpatient to outpatient, as well as school and mobile. My clients represent all stages across the lifespan. My passion is helping clients to address a variety of needs, many of which stem from prior traumatic or dysfunctional patterns, as well as to help them find a more fulfilling balance. I often see clients suffer from imposter and/or Wonder Woman syndrome, frequently manifesting as suicidal ideation, depression, and/or anxiety. I use an integrated approach rooted in feminist theory, and that focuses on how trauma currently shows up in our lives. I find this is crucial to break the cycle. I believe that clients of all genders are harmed by societal norms, roles, and stigmas; we all can benefit from working to break down those barriers for the sake of healthy emotional expression. There is nothing better in my line of work than watching clients heal and grow to become thrivers - their own champions. Please reach out to discuss a potential relationship!
I work best with people who are going through change, feeling stuck, or struggling in their relationships and want a space where they can be honest and understood. Many of the people I work with are dealing with stress, anxiety, past hurt, or conflict with partners or family. I also work with people in poly, open, and kink relationships who want a supportive place to talk about communication, boundaries, and connection. My clients are usually people who want to understand themselves better, improve how they relate to others, and live more authentically.

Welcome to the Awareness and Wellness Center (AWC)! My name is Amy Mintgomery and I am a professional counselor in Pennsylvania providing in-person and online counseling. I have been providing therapy services for adults struggling with a range of issues including substance use disorders, problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief/loss, as well as anger/stress management problems and more. I have gained this experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings including long-term residential, inpatient and outpatient agencies. For 18 years I worked in the Student Life division of a local university. I worked primarily with student organizations in organizational development. I helped the young adult population of the university develop self-efficacy and to better manage stress. More recently I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings for substance use and co-occurring disorders. In therapy, I use a person-centered approached utilizing cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused technique. My approach is to provide a soothing space and offer the environment you need to talk through life’s challenges. “Life on life’s terms” can be complicated and everyone needs a place to process difficulties. My hope is to be part of your “We” so that you have the professional support needed to begin to work through challenges and find solutions to better manage stress and the emotions connected to that stress.

I am a member of PsyPact, which means I can offer remote (video) sessions to those in any PsyPact member state (includes Michigan). Many college students today lack the coping skills that are necessary to address life’s ups and downs. They often feel disconnected emotionally, and are unable to handle stress, peer and relationship issues, or the school, college, or work environment. When a teen is struggling with academics, they receive tutoring or support to develop the skills they need to succeed. Emotional health is no different. Teens need tools to help them regulate their emotions, develop connections with others, and create a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle. I take an integrated, solution-focused approach to working with adolescents and young adults who are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I treat the whole person, not just their symptoms, with the goal of giving them the tools they need to manage whatever comes their way – now and for the rest of their lives.
