Art Therapy is for everyone! I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures, beliefs and existences, and feel that being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in a therapist; I strive to bring an inclusive and multicultural spirit to my work. Art Therapy provides an excellent catalyst for the expression of thoughts and feelings, and helps to find hidden meanings in your life; as your therapist I am here to assist with making sense of images and finding ways to manage feelings and issues. My inclination is to invite a spirit of fierce self-acceptance and self-compassion; to help change the negative, anxious, narrative to one of gentleness, forgiving, and yes, even loving.
I'm a person-centered therapist with 15+ years of experience using existential, CBT, Gestalt, and counseling techniques to help you understand your mental health and handle life's stressors-with honesty, empathy, and just the right amount of humor.

I assist in helping my clients find meaning and fulfillment in life by being engaged and by actively guiding you through your unique life challenges. Most of my clients come see me because they just know life could be better. It HAS to be. For many people who walk through my door, their lives aren't shattered, lying breathless in the corner. These people get up every single day and do the thing. But somehow, somewhere, something still feels off. Maybe it's your relationship. Maybe it's you. Maybe you don't know what it is, but life just doesn't seem right. You're not fully happy. Not yet. I help couples, families, and individuals live better. How? By having lived lots of lives, I've developed a unique perspective. One that has allowed me to develop a mental wellness expertise that mixes therapeutic techniques found in human services and combines them with the results-oriented coaching and leadership skills derived from the professional services field. This specific meld of mojo enables me to provide a different kind of service and perspective where other help may have been unsuccessful.
Do you want to speak with someone who is compassionate and understanding? I will not only listen to you but will help you develop the right skills to effectively deal with whatever comes your way in the future.
I like to work with children, teens, and young adults with mental and behavioral health disorders after being emersed in the public school system for the past decade. Building a rapport and seeing my patients' confidence grow as their condition improves is my 'why'. Helping children and young adults learn how to recognize, manage, and cope with their symptoms as they progress into adulthood to live a peaceful, meaningful life is my goal.
My individual practice is made up of college students who are in college or soon to be transitioning into the real world. My model is CBT , but tailor sessions to the needs of each individual. Some students might need hands on direction , while others just a supportive and safe place to share and have someone listen. I feel I provide a comforting and safe environment . I love to focus on mindfulness tools to help with stress and time management.
I offer individual therapy on issues including anxiety, depression, identity exploration, self-esteem, relationships, and life transitions. I am also proficient in Spanish. My practice provides a non-judgmental, compassionate environment where you will be not just listened to, but truly heard. I approach therapy through feminist, strength-based, client-centered, and relational frameworks to empower you on your path forward. At its core, this means that nothing happens in a vacuum, our lives are impacted by our history, environments, systems of oppression, relationships, and our own identities. My goal is to create a collaborative space where you can connect more fully with yourself and gain the insight and tools to overcome challenges and live your most authentic, fulfilling life.
Are you trying to heal from past trauma's? Are you going through a life transition? Feeling drained or exhausted? Are you looking for general support? Looking to improve your quality of life? Wherever you are, Journey to Healing Counseling Associates, promises to meet you where you're at. Seeking help isn't easy, so I commend you for taking the first step. I believe therapy is so important as life can be beautiful, it can also pose challenges you shouldn't have to face alone. I believe in providing unconditional acceptance and positive regard. My counseling style is warm, gentle, and non-judgmental. Be heard. Be seen. Be valued.

I have been a therapist for over 30 years and have focused my work around helping clients develop healthy, satisfying relationships. I find that the people I see feel isolated, disappointed, and fearful of connecting with others. My approach is psychodynamic meaning that I see current concerns as a function of past relationships with significant people in one's life.
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Life’s challenges—whether it’s managing anxiety, navigating depression, dealing with stress, or improving relationships—can feel overwhelming. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs. I believe in meeting you where you are, creating a space where you can be truly heard, and supporting you as you take steps toward becoming the best version of yourself. I work from a holistic perspective, recognizing that mental, emotional, and physical well-being are deeply interconnected. Whether we’re addressing current life stressors or exploring deeper patterns from the past, my goal is to help you understand and transform what is no longer serving you. Together, we will build the skills and insights you need to manage anxiety, heal from depression, and create more fulfilling relationships. With a person-centered, strength-based approach, I draw from various therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused strategies. Each session is designed to empower you with practical tools to cope with life’s challenges, while fostering self-compassion and resilience. If you’re ready to begin this journey of self-discovery and healing, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
Starting therapy can feel like a big step—especially if you’re used to pushing things down, holding it together for everyone else, or telling yourself, “I should be fine by now.” Maybe part of you wants support & another part is unsure, tired, or scared to open things back up. If that’s you, it makes a lot of sense. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in patterns like people-pleasing, constant self-doubt, overthinking, or feeling burned out. You might feel on edge all the time, replay conversations in your head, or struggle to trust yourself & your choices. Others come in carrying the weight of trauma.

Dr. Michele Slabaugh, DBH, MA, LPC-MHSP-S, NCC believes in using a combination of approaches to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
