Struggling with anxiety, ADHD, regulating your own emotions, or dealing with stressors from daily life or traumas? It can be hard to seek help and know that someone is there to support and connect with you. I see you as the expert on your own life and hope to help guide you on a more peaceful path. I use mindfulness based cognitive therapy, EMDR, parts work, and narrative therapy to help you learn techniques to better meet your own needs.
Our time together will be spent figuring the aspects- emotional, intellectual, sensory-based, and behavioral- of life through out your own story. Growing into learning how to listen to yourself so you can trust what it is you know, and what it is you need will be at the core of each session so that the feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiousness, depression no longer keep you detached from yourself. The tools I use are done with cultural considerations, and by acknowledging the extra burdens social constructs and systemic environments put on you. I start with listening and being a witness to your story. With your consent, I use therapeutic tools to assist you in taking an objective stance in your story, and in offering yourself compassion. Continuing through developing and honing in on how you understand your experience through strengthening the connection between your mind and body. I am also trained in and have used EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) with children, teens, adults of both the neurodiverse (Autism, ADHD, etc.) and neurotypical populations. EMDR is used in session, with your consent, when you feel the need to address larger internal hurdles such as phobias or trauma(s) (also known as PTSD or C-PTSD). All of the work will be done at your pace and with your specific needs in mind. I am an affirming counselor and believe counseling should be for everyone. I understand the systemic pressure that can have you trying to “get it right!” A benefit to you may be my stance on de-stigmatizing mental health by avoiding rigid diagnoses and accepting that there is more than one way to live and thrive in this/your world. I will be ready when you are. Until then, good luck on your search. My license number is #93296. I am supervised by Stamatis Bogdanos, LPC-S | #64556 in Houston, Tx. There is no magic button or quick-fix solution when it comes to making a change. I find that I am the best fit for individuals who are looking to enhance their emotional well being and want to challenge themselves. I specialize in helping individuals struggling with life transitions, depression, and anxiety. My therapeutic approach considers clients to be the experts in their life, with my role as a guide to help uncover negative patterns and work towards positive change.
You’re juggling a lot. Classes, work, friends, family, money, maybe figuring out who you are and what you actually want from life. And somewhere in the middle of all that, your mental health is supposed to “keep up.” My practice is here for that in-between space—when things aren’t exactly falling apart, but they’re definitely not okay. I work with college students who are dealing with anxiety, overthinking, burnout, relationship stress, grief, and big life transitions. Together, we slow things down, sort through the noise, and build practical tools you can actually use in real life. Sessions are judgment-free, conversational, and tailored to you—no pressure to be “put together” or say the perfect thing. You can come as you are: exhausted, unsure, overwhelmed, or just curious about therapy. If you’re ready to feel a little less stuck and a little more like yourself again, you’re in the right place.
I’m a therapist who values honesty, reflection, and meaningful change. I go beyond surface-level work, helping you understand the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that shape how you show up in your life. My approach is supportive yet direct. I’ll help you identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck—like perfectionism, people-pleasing, or self-criticism—while creating a space where you feel respected and not judged.
I am one of the leading experts in pre-surgical psychological evaluations. I have authored a book titled "Psychological Assessment of Surgical Candidates: Evidence-Based Procedures and Practices" and actively engage in society work associated with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to advance training and science related to bariatric surgery. My clinical training experiences have largely centered around assessing the intersections of medical/health, psychological, and social aspects of individuals to facilitate successful outcomes in medical settings. With training from some of the leading experts in psychological assessment, I am also proficient in conducting disability/worker's compensation evaluations, pre-employment screening, and general psychodiagnostic evaluations in addition to pre-surgical assessments. I am licensed in the state of Texas (#38086) and hold a PsyPact license to practice in other states. My research focuses on understanding how psychological factors contribute to medical outcomes. I have over 60 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on pre-surgical psychological evaluations and their predictive value for various outcomes. I use my research findings to assist patients in managing risk factors before and after surgery to optimize their outcomes. Additionally, I have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly in the use and study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in both research and practice. I have been recognized by several national organizations with early-career research awards for my contributions to pre-surgical psychological evaluations. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator on novel psychological interventions for Type 2 Diabetes. I also serve as an Associate Editor for two esteemed journals in the field – Psychological Assessment and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.
Hi, my name is Sarah Hoffman, and I’m a licensed counselor in Houston, TX. I help anxious and overwhelmed students struggling with the stress of school and daily life find ways to take control of their lives and feel better. I help my clients better understand themselves and their minds, harness their strengths, and embrace their full selves so they can live the life they want. I’m an affirming therapist and have extensive experience supporting students who identify as neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, transgender, gender expansive, BIPOC, migrant/immigrant/child of immigrants, or who had a multicultural upbringing. I will celebrate, support, honor, and work to understand all parts of you, including your cultures, values, beliefs, and many identities. It’s important you feel safe to bring your full self into our sessions. My specialties include ADHD, neurodivergence, anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. Sometimes, life feels like an endless battle and a constant game of catch-up that leaves you feeling drained and overwhelmed. Some days, even the simple act of getting out of bed might feel impossible as you struggle to keep track of everything on your ever-growing to-do list. It feels like you're always running late, forgetting important things, and it's hard to concentrate on anything. Even though people around you might think you're doing okay because you hide how you feel and put on a brave face, the truth is that inside, you feel like you're falling apart. Life feels confusing and overwhelming. I understand how the pressure to succeed and the fear of messing up and failing can be paralyzing and suffocating. It’s draining to feel like you’re always on edge. You want to enjoy your life and have a chance to catch your breath. You’re starting to realize that maybe this isn’t how everyone feels, and you want to find a way to feel better. I know how hard it is to figure out how to balance the responsibilities and expectations of life. I get what it's like to feel different, and that life is more challenging for you than for others without knowing why. I understand the exhaustion of figuring out who you are and where you fit in the world. From personal experience, I also know how much it helps to work with an affirming and supportive counselor when you're struggling. Counseling is an investment in yourself. To get the most from your counseling sessions, you need a counselor you trust, who works to understand you, and has the training to help you reach your counseling goals. I worked in education for many years, both as a teacher and school counselor, and I understand the pressure of balancing school, family, friends, extracurriculars, work, and life. Working so hard to stay on top of everything is tiring. I became a licensed counselor because I wanted to help students reduce their feelings of stress and anxiety and find joy and peace in the chaos of everyday life. I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to the tools, knowledge, and self-understanding needed to live a meaningful and choice-filled life. Everyone deserves support navigating life’s challenges. My approach combines strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. During our counseling sessions, I’ll provide you with personalized tools and strategies to help you take control of your life and handle life’s daily challenges with ease. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of the feeling you're not measuring up and start waking up feeling confident and energized for the day. Through our work together in counseling, you can start to change how you view yourself and shed the weight of your worries. When you better understand yourself and how your mind works, you can finally let go of that feeling that you're not measuring up. If at any point, you find our counseling sessions aren't working, I'll adjust my approach or help connect you with appropriate referrals. Your comfort and progress are my top priorities in counseling. I want to help you trade stress for a more fulfilling life and find your genuine smile. To learn more about working with me, you can visit my website and reach out to schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation. During this call, I'll let you know how I can help, or I'll do my best to connect you with someone who can. I want to help you stop feeling anxious and overwhelmed and start finding balance and joy in your life.
