I employ a variety of approaches in my work including Dialetical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I have particular expertise in helping trauma survivors. I help people heal from complex trauma by providing a safe, caring, non-judgmental therapeutic environment. College can be a stressful time, with new academic demands, social pressures, and uncertainty about the future. College can also be demanding with tight deadlines, exams, and responsibilities, leading to high levels of stress that can become overwhelming. I have special expertise in helping students navigate the demands of college. I have experience helping individuals who struggle with eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. I also have experience working with individuals who identify as part of a gender, sexuality or relationship structure minority (GSRM). I also have expertise in healing from narcissistic abuse. Narcissistic abuse is a type of emotional abuse where the abuser only cares about themselves and may use words and actions to manipulate their partner's behavior and emotional state. Healing from this kind of abuse requires expertise from the therapist about navigating boundaries, especially when there is a continuing relationship. I believe it is a privilege to accompany people on their therapeutic journey. I tailor my approach to each unique individual.
Therapy is a journey into yourself. It is choosing to step forward into growth rather than shy back into what is safe and comfortable. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. This process of self-discovery isn’t easy, but certainly worth it! My approach to counseling is that of being direct, honest, and straightforward. I work hard to balance that with care, compassion, and empathy. I will push you, but not past your limits. At times it may feel as if I am pushing you past your limits but that is because often times we aren’t able to see our true potential.
We specialize in treating anxiety, trauma, OCD and depression. We also work with students that may have neurodiversity or are struggling with any aspect of identity.
Everyone can benefit from therapy regardless of how big or small a problem feels: both sprained and broken ankles can benefit from crutches! Whether you have faced a life-altering event, or have worries about the future, I will guide and support you along the journey. Taking the first steps to begin therapy can be intimidating, but is an important move to make to become your best self. My approach balances the emotional processing necessary to generate insights with the practical components of skill building to truly give you all the benefits therapy can provide. I use a flexible integrative model to generate individualized treatment since no two people or problems are the same. I believe therapy is most effective when we collaborate to improve your quality of life. I'm excited to begin the process of achieving your personal goals! Currently supervised by Tara Towler-Cumby, MA, LPC, CPCS.

I help people experiencing stress, anxiety, and burnout. This can occur in many forms resulting in a variety of symptoms. My style is warm, engaging and collaborative. I am a functional psychotherapist and coach meaning that I utilize multiple modalities to help you including EMDR, hypnosis, somatic therapy, EFT, and traditional talk therapy. I am a trauma-informed provider who specializes in supporting individuals and couples navigating conflict, depression, anxiety, infertility, chronic illness, grief/loss, trauma and transition. One of the bravest things we can do is begin to understand our own stories. Clients I support often grapple with the impact of narratives about who they were, are, or "should be", leaving them questioning, "Do I matter?" or shedding pieces of their identity to generate a sense of belonging. Together, we can explore societal and relational influences on your story, while identifying your values, strengths, options for healing and growth. I believe every client holds expertise in their own experiences and deserves the right to make decisions honoring personal journeys and values. My approach incorporates relational-cultural, feminist, and interpersonal lenses. I utilize the Gottman Method, CBT, DBT, IFS, and MSC strategies, also drawing from 12+ years of experience as a parent and educator. Everyone deserves to experience validation, compassion, and belonging. I am committed to facilitating a space in which you feel understood, valued, and supported as we prioritize your goals, explore your story, and incorporate strategies for reintegrating pieces of your Self so you also can experience increased personal acceptance and relational connection.
Many university students seek support when the usual ways of coping stop working. Even high-achieving, motivated students can find themselves struggling to focus, stay organized, manage emotions, or just feel like themselves. It’s not always obvious what’s going on at first—but there’s often more beneath the surface. I work with students dealing with: ADHD – trouble with focus, time management, procrastination, or follow-through Anxiety – persistent worry, racing thoughts, panic, or physical symptoms like tension or trouble sleeping Depression – low energy, lack of motivation, disconnection, or loss of interest in things that used to matter OCD – intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, mental loops that are hard to break Trauma – past experiences that affect how you respond to stress, relationships, or daily life Bipolar disorder – changes in mood, sleep, or energy that feel destabilizing or confusing Neurodivergence – navigating a world not built for your brain, and looking for care that meets you where you are Some students are already on medication and want to review or adjust their treatment. Others are starting from the beginning, looking to understand what’s going on and what options are available. Either way, the goal is the same: to feel more grounded, more capable, and more like yourself again. I offer convenient virtual appointments that can be requested online, as well as in-person visits at our Scottdale, GA location.

Are you feeling overwhelmed under the pressures of facing life transitions, hacking adulthood, success/failure, and your FUTURE, particularly in these stressful, uncertain times? Finding an older adult who really gets it, and opening up to a stranger can also be really stressful- I understand! I promise, I really get all that you may be struggling with and can help you learn to cope with it all better, feel less overwhelmed, and be more confident in your ability to not just be “okay,” but to thrive. I work with a lot of folks in their twenties, and always strive to have a relaxed, supportive, inclusive, affirming, and judgment-free safe space for all clients to help them to learn and determine more about Who they are and want to be, to like and value themselves, manage stress and life better, take on each day confidently, and just generally believe they really can figure it out and do it (whatever “it” is). Through a compassionate trauma-informed, strengths-based lens, I seek to help my clients become empowered to heal, grow, and thrive. I work with adults, including many zoomers and zillennials, from all various backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, faiths, and world-views. While I see that most issues are grounded in some depth of trauma, my focused areas include: anxiety, loss/grief, PTSD and C-PTSD, stress, burnout, perfectionism, Self-Image & Identity, adjustment, attachment wounds / developmental trauma, interpersonal/relationship issues (including w/ family), narcissistic abuse survival, and recovery & relapse prevention. (I also offer a faith-based orientation by client request.) My collaborative approach to therapy does involve talking about life’s issues, but I don’t just repeat things back to you or tell you to change a thought or behavior. I tend to also promote thinking about things from new, alternative perspectives and of yourself in a sense of various parts, to provide comfortable structure and accountability, help you identify and then to understand the real reasons WHY patterns have developed & happen, and to learn how to feel safe, grounded, and regulated within yourself - no matter where you are. I’d say I take a Whole-istic mind-body stance, and often use neuro-somatic techniques, including Brainspotting (BSP) and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to help reduce reactive feelings, as well as the integration of therapeutic psychedelics for deeper healing. Call, text, or email me whenever you’re ready, and let’s discuss your therapy needs and goals for being the best version of your Self! Lara Eddleman, MS, LPC, CCTP
