Therapists for college students near 02138
Are you an anxious Millennial or Gen Z questioning the path you're on and constantly comparing yourself to others? Are you an educator or college student dealing with burnout, chronic stress, and intense Sunday Scaries? My specialties include working with young adults, including educators, self identified "people pleasers" and perfectionists, who are struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, relationship issues, transitions & life changes. Together we will explore that inner voice that is telling you that you are falling behind or simply not good enough. We'll work together to get you feeling like yourself again. Whether you are making a career change, navigating interpersonal relationships, discovering yourself or your identity - my goal is to help you process your feelings and find the tools to live a grounded and happy life. In therapy you will work through the obstacles blocking your path through healing old wounds and developing strategies to cope.
There is a delicate balance between accepting life as it is and our inherent desire for change. This duality is at the heart of my therapeutic approach-creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel empowered to explore themselves, their experiences, and their potential for growth. I specialize in providing compassionate support for those navigating the complexities of major life adjustments, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, and personal crises. I approach this with deep respect for each person’s unique spiritual beliefs, existential questions, and process of meaning making. I draw inspiration from humanistic and transpersonal theories, integrating evidence-based modalities like Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also incorporate mindfulness practices, guided imagery, and grounding exercises to help clients build resilience, find inner peace, and cultivate a sense of agency in their lives. As an RYT 200 Yoga Teacher, I also believe in the transformative power of body-mind connection. I integrate elements of yoga, meditation, and self-care, recognizing the importance of maintaining balance, well-being, and grounding in the present moment. I believe this quote from The Lord of the Rings captures the essence of my work: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” It is a reminder that we have the power to shape our lives, our healing, and the way we approach each moment. I look forward to working with you and supporting you on your own journey toward growth, healing, and transformation.
I help people to heal from past trauma and hurtful experiences so that they can decrease anxiety, increase feelings of self-worth and develop authentic relationships. Together we will address the underlying patterns and fears that are keeping you in survival-mode so that you develop the confidence and courage to move toward the life you want to live. You may be struggling with: Difficulty in relationships or creating a healthy relationship. Constantly people-pleasing. Shame and low self-esteem. Feeling like you have to hide part of yourself. Anxiety holding you back. A challenging relationship with your body. Feeling held back in this way is deeply painful. My job is not to fix you (because you're not broken), but to work with you to address the underlying patterns and fear. During our sessions, we may explore how unhealthy patterns and limiting self-beliefs play a role in where you are struggling. I work without judgment of your truth is, where you currently are, or where it is you’d like to go. I integrate my background in energy psychology and training as a meditation teacher into my work. I blend trauma-informed, attachment, and somatic interventions into my work with clients.
Life has many challenges. It's how you grow from your past that defines who you are in life. You may feel alone, misunderstood, and unfulfilled with your life or personal relationships. Perhaps you're having intense negative emotions. People typically enter therapy when they are in distress, although it's usually the long-term and underlying struggles that concern them the most. Initially, we will work quickly to address your immediate pain and provide relief. As therapy progresses, our focus may shift so you develop more positive and enriching relationships with yourself and others. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and compassionate environment where you can recognize your potential and live a meaningful life. I use evidenced-based therapy that focuses on the dynamics that impact your daily experience. We look for the behaviors, attitudes, and patterns that protected you in the past but no longer serve a purpose.
Hello! I'm Chris, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts, and I'm delighted to meet you. My goal is to ensure you feel at ease discussing any topic that's important to you. I'm excited about the opportunity to work together and support your journey! My intention as a psychotherapist is to create a safe and supportive environment in which people can learn and share more about themselves, and in so doing, ease their suffering and create possibilities of positive movement and change in their lives. I am grounded in a relational and psychodynamic approach. This means that I am attuned to building a respectful interactive relationship, and that I bring an awareness of the deep impact of the past on people's present lives. My practice is diverse, with a specialization in trauma focused psychotherapy. Other areas of expertise are the treatment of depression, grief and loss, anxiety, relational issues, emotional regulation, and difficulties with family of origin.
We work best with students who feel deeply and think a lot. Many of the students we support are navigating major life changes, identity questions, relationship challenges, or the pressure to succeed while feeling like they are falling behind inside. If you have ever felt like you are carrying a lot beneath the surface or trying to make sense of big emotions and experiences, you are not alone. In therapy, we create a space where you can slow down, feel understood, and build the tools to move through life with more self-awareness and confidence.
I provide counseling services to individuals, couples and families seeking workable solutions and a balanced life. Therapy helps individuals explore and improve their emotional, behavioral and relationship functioning. My style is warm, relaxed and comfortable; my work emerges from a positive, strengths-based perspective. I offer both teletherapy and in office sessions. I founded Just Breathe in 2010 as a safe place for all.
I specialize in providing individual therapy to adults experiencing OCD and/or eating disorders. I can also provide support for other mental health issues, including: depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, trauma, mood disorders, and substance misuse. I also help clients navigate life's common problems, including relationship issues, work stress, identity development, and grief. I periodically offer support groups for OCD and eating disorders. I will be seeing clients in person in Pittsburgh starting in August 2023. I can see clients in Massachusetts via telehealth but I am not accepting any telehealth clients at this time.

The transition to college or graduate school can be a time of tremendous change. Adapting to new environments, relationships and levels of independence can feel overwhelming in even the best of circumstances. For those who are navigating mental health challenges, complicated family or friend dynamics, shifts in identity, grief, or loss, that transition can generate feelings of anxiety, panic or paralysis that may affect daily functioning. I was a client long before I became a therapist, so I know how daunting it can be to open yourself up to a stranger – to let them see those private parts of yourself that might have been a source of judgment, fear, pain or shame. It took me many years to ask for help, in part because I viewed it as a sign of weakness. Now, through the lens of both my professional and lived experiences, I see this first step you are taking for what it is – one of the ultimate signs of strength. I honor the courage it took to access that strength. I can’t guarantee that the work ahead will be easy – but you won’t have to do it alone. My goal as a therapist is to meet you where you are and walk with you as you move toward where you want to be. I strive to create a therapeutic space that is authentic, safe and non-judgmental. My approach to our work together is relationship-based and trauma-informed. I believe that therapy is most effective when the connection between client and therapist is grounded in trust and compassion. I invite you to reach out so that we can explore, together, whether I might be the right person to join you on your journey toward new insights, self-awareness and growth. Please note that discounts are available to full-time students on a case-by-case basis.

Those who come to me are often seeking relief from the challenges of PTSD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, aging, parenting and caregiving, grief and those in or on their journey to recovery. Pursuing higher education, whether starting college, returning after time away, or continuing into graduate school, can be exciting and rewarding. Yet it can also bring stress, uncertainty, and moments of self-doubt. Balancing academic expectations, relationships, and personal well-being isn’t easy, and many students feel pressure to manage it all on their own. At Christina Cares Counseling, LLC, I offer a compassionate, supportive space for adults navigating the unique challenges of college and graduate life. Together, we can work through anxiety, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, burnout, and the struggle to find balance and direction. I bring over 15 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, independently licensed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, build resilience, and find relief through honest conversation, understanding, and practical tools for growth. I also accept several insurance plans through Headway to make it easier to start therapy. These include: • Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Connecticut (in Connecticut) • Quest Behavioral Health (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Cigna (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Carelon Behavioral Health (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Aetna (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Ascension (SmartHealth) (in Tennessee) …with more insurance options coming soon.
